Rishab Shetty on Hindi remake, Bollywood’s ‘lost glory’, his special appeal and more

Kannada Kantara movie continues to roar at the box office with great love and appreciation from the audience all over the world. Meanwhile, actor, director and screenwriter Rishab Shetty is on “cloud nine” after being swamped with admiration from various bigwigs from different film industries in India as well as critical acclaim.

Kantara’s Ultimate Box Office Collection

Kantara’s worldwide box office gross has exceeded 250 million rupees. With the massive collection, it is just behind the gross collection of BO from KGF Chapter 2 globally. Recently, it surpassed the KGF Collection: Chapter 1 to take the second position on the list of highest grossing Kannada films.

New Hindi version of Kantara

Although it is a Kannada film, Kantara was released in multiple languages after great success at the regional box office.

Meanwhile, speculation abounded that Bollywood filmmakers might show interest in the Hindi remake of the magnificent film, continuing their tradition of ‘remake movies’.

However, when asked about the idea of the Hindi remake of Kantara, Rishab said, “To play those characters, you have to believe in roots and culture. There are many great actors in the Hindi film industry whom I admire. But I’m not interested in remakes.”

Special appeal to the audience.

Kantara had to do with a specific tribal culture and tradition of Karnataka. The hangover from the film still remains fresh in the minds of moviegoers. However, some of the fans have been imitating the sounds used in the film.

According to some media reports, Rishab called on everyone not to imitate the sounds used in the film. “I ask the audience who saw Kantara not to imitate the sounds used in the film. It is related to cultural sentiment and traditional beliefs. It is a sensitive matter that can disturb feelings,” Rishab said.

What helped Kantara prosper globally?

Kantara fever has gripped movie lovers. Speaking about the idea of the film, recently during an interview he said that he wanted to make a film about the soil, tradition and culture on the Karnataka coast that the rest of Karnataka is not fully aware of.

As Rishab believes, the more regional the more universal. “I was exploring the struggle between man and nature through the ‘Daiv’ tradition. And he also wanted to tell the story of our agriculture,” the Kantara actor said according to ETimes.

Furthermore, Rishab also went on to say that he wanted the film to be recognized as Kannada cinema. Even the creators had initially planned to release it on OTT, but the winds changed after the release. Word of mouth spread like wildfire and paved the way for Kantara to record new world records.

Rishab talks about the lost glory of Bollywood

Speaking about the current state of Bollywood, Rishab said that this is seasonal. Furthermore, she went on to say that every industry goes through ups and downs.

Furthermore, Rishab shared his opinion that the audience probably now does not distinguish films as products of Bollywood, Sandalwood, etc. People are crossing the language barrier and viewing content from all over India.

“Kantara is Kannada, regional and Indian cinema. People see it as Indian cinema,” he added.

Rishab celebrating the overwhelming success of Kantara

Rishab visited the Siddhi Vinayak Temple in Mumbai on Sunday morning and photos soon flooded the internet. The actor offered prayers at the temple after Kantara’s massive success at the box office.

After Thalaiva Rajinikanth praised Kantara and Rishab on Friday, the fanboy met megastar Rajinikanth at his residence in Chennai. Later on Saturday, he shared photos of him meeting. He captioned the set footage, “If you praise us once, it’s equal to your praising us 100 times. Thank you. Mr. Rajinikanth, we will be eternally grateful to you for watching our film and praising our film Kanatara.”

Plans of Rishab

As an audience, Rishab said that she likes stories that are about her country, people, culture and language. “India’s culture and way of life are different from the rest of the world. I’d love to see that show up in any form of content. That is our feeling and our responsibility as filmmakers/storytellers, to tell future generations about our traditions. Future generations should have something to do with our traditions and culture.
