Chitradurga: A local court on Friday arrested police for transferring Lingayat seer Shivamurthy Murugha Sharanaru, accused of raping minor girls, to hospital without his permission. The Chitradurga Second District and Sessions Court also requested the jailer to immediately present the accused. Following orders, the authorities prepare to present the sighted defendant before the hospital judge.
Sharanaru is being treated for developing cardiac complications in the Chitradurga District Hospital ICU. Doctors said they will transfer him to a Bangalore hospital for further treatment.
While investigating the police petition requesting custody of the seer for five days for the investigation, the court asked why the accused was not brought to court.
Given this, the prosecution maintained that the accused seer is in the hospital. Objecting to this, the court questioned why the prosecution did not seek permission in this regard. Although the prosecution requested permission to present the accused by videoconference, the court denied it.
With this development, the chances of the accused seer being transferred to Bangalore hospital have become bleak, the sources say.
The accused seer was arrested Thursday night and is being brought to justice by the local court. He faces charges under the POCSO and SC, ST Atrocity Prevention Act. The Bangalore court has issued an arrest warrant against him in a case of misappropriation of property.
