335 Filipinos deported via Sandakan

KOTA KINABALU: Some 335 Filipinos have been deported back to their home country through the Sandakan port on Tuesday (Oct. 18), the state Immigration Department said.

Sabah Director of Immigration Datuk SH Sitti Saleha Habib Yusoff said the undocumented migrants were from the Sandakan and Papar immigration depots (temporary detention centers), where they boarded the MV Antonia 1 ferry bound for Sabah port. Zamboanga City, Philippines.

“There were 266 men, 34 women, nine children under the age of 12, and 26 toddlers under the age of 23 months.

“The children involved in the operation were accompanied by their respective parents or guardians,” it said in a statement.

He added that the deportation operation was part of the state Immigration Department’s ongoing operation for foreigners located at all of its warehouses in Sabah.

Foreigners are also reminded to have valid travel documentation and work permit for Sabah before entering the country.

Covid-19 Watch: 2,898 new cases, nationwide ICU bed usage at 66.7pc

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 2,898 new Covid-19 cases on Saturday (Nov 26), bringing the total number of cases in the country to 4,984,272 infections since the pandemic began.

The KKMNow portal of the Ministry of Health reported that 2,896 of the new Covid-19 cases on Saturday were local transmissions, while two imported infections were registered.

There were 2,789 recoveries on Saturday. This brings the cumulative number of recoveries in Malaysia to 4,920,616 since the pandemic began.

The portal also reported that there were 27,008 currently active cases in the country, with 24,924, or 92.3%, in home quarantine and 14 people, or 0.1%, admitted to low-risk quarantine and treatment centers.

The KKMNow portal reported that 2,070 patients, or 7.66% of the total, were currently admitted to the hospital for treatment. The number of patients with Covid-19 admitted to intensive care units (ICU) throughout the country is 97, of which 57 require respiratory assistance.

The national ICU utilization rate was 66.7%, with ten states or localities reporting ICU utilization rates greater than 60%.

Kedah had the highest ICU utilization rate at 80.8%, followed by Kelantan (80.3%), Selangor (79.6%), Melaka (76.8%), Perak (73.7%) ), Johor (72.3%), Penang (67.5%), Kuala Lumpur (65.2%) and Sabah (62.9%).

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry’s GitHub data repository reported that four deaths from covid-19 were reported on Saturday.

This brings the death toll to 36,648.

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will hold a meeting with government departments and agencies in Putrajaya on Sunday (November 27) that will focus on cost of living issues affecting people.

“Tonight, we held a prayer session with parishioners and friends in Sungai Long.

“Tomorrow morning at 11am there will be a meeting with government departments and agencies in Putrajaya that will focus on the cost of living issues that are burdening the people,” he said in a post on his Facebook and Twitter accounts on Saturday. (November 26).

PETALING JAYA: Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) has become the 2022 Malaysia Cup champion after beating Selangor 2-1 in the final held at Bukit Jalil National Stadium on Saturday (November 26).

JDT and the Red Giants were tied 1–1 at halftime before JDT’s Fernando Forestieri scored the game-winner in the 59th minute.
